EXCERPT
She was always interested in helping older adults. From the time Dr. Laurie Gunter was of school age, she was the designated nurse in her large extended family. In a recent interview, she fondly remembered her early years and the times she was on duty when her great-grandmother had a sick day: Old people were just interesting! That was Texas during the 1920s. Much has changed since then, but appropriately, Dr. Laurie Gunter is still credited as one of the early pioneers who advanced the educational preparation of geriatric nurses.
